Why does gravity pull on absolutely everything?

Every single object with mass pulls on every other object with mass, this is a rule that applies to literally everything in the universe, not just planets. You do not notice yourself being pulled toward a nearby chair because your own mass, and the chair's, are far too small for that pull to be strong enough to feel, but a planet's enormous mass makes its pull impossible to ignore. Scientists spent centuries figuring out that this same invisible force that drops an apple also keeps the moon circling Earth and Earth circling the sun.

How do scientists know something is true if they cannot see it directly?

Scientists often study things too small, too far away, or too fast to see directly, like atoms or the inside of a star, so instead they look for clues left behind and see if those clues match what their idea predicts. If an idea keeps correctly predicting new clues over and over, scientists trust it more, even without ever seeing the thing itself with their own eyes. Nobody has ever directly seen an atom with a regular eye, but scientists trust atoms exist because every single prediction based on them keeps turning out to be true.

Why is it important for scientists to admit when they are wrong?

Science moves forward by testing ideas and throwing out the ones that do not hold up, so admitting a mistake is not a failure, it is actually how better answers get found. Many ideas that scientists once fully believed, like the idea that the sun circles the Earth, were eventually proven wrong by new evidence and had to be replaced. A scientist who refuses to change their mind even when the evidence clearly disagrees is not really doing science anymore, they are just holding onto a guess.

What does it actually mean when scientists call something a "theory"?

In everyday talk, "theory" often means a guess, but in science it means the exact opposite, a scientific theory is an explanation that has been tested again and again, backed by enormous amounts of evidence, and has never been proven wrong. Ideas like gravity, evolution, and atoms are all called "theories," not because scientists are unsure about them, but because that is the highest, most well-supported level an explanation can reach in science. A true scientific theory can still be refined as new evidence comes in, but it takes overwhelming evidence to overturn one completely.
