little one is in warm arms. I am going now. I come back.

Growy waves. A small hand waves. Wave, wave.

The door closes. The room stays the same. I come back.

The door opens. Here I am. Wave, wave.

Leaving is often harder on the parent than it looks from outside, and that is not a sign you are doing it wrong. Babies are usually helped by a goodbye that is short and always the same: one hug, one sentence, then out. Drawing it out stretches the hardest part, for both of you. Slipping away without saying goodbye avoids the crying in that moment, but saying goodbye is more often recommended, because it gives the leaving a shape and an end. Some babies cry after the parent leaves and then settle with the person who stays. If you can, ask that person how it went afterwards rather than guessing. And what you feel while you are away is real, even when the leaving is planned, short and completely ordinary.
👋 Choose one goodbye you will do the same way every time: the same hug, the same sentence, the same wave at the door. Short, and always the same.
