💡Read together

  • What does your baby do just before falling asleep?
  • Which part of settling is hardest for you?
  • How does your voice sound when you are tired too?

👪For you

Settling rarely goes faster because you try harder. Babies are often helped by what repeats, so a short sequence that is similar every evening can be settling: the light down, the same movement, the same voice. What is in the sequence matters less than the fact that it does not change. Your body is part of the story here, because a baby reads the rhythm of your breathing and the tension in your arms long before any word, which is why settling is often hardest on the evenings when you are barely standing. If it takes a long time tonight, it does not mean you broke something. Sleep changes many times during the first year, and difficult stretches can come and go even when you are doing everything you can. For safe sleep, put your baby on their back on a firm, flat sleep surface, with no pillows, blankets, toys or other soft objects in the sleep space.

🎨Try this

🌙 Pick one sentence you will say every evening at bedtime, always the same one. It does not have to mean anything. It only has to come back.
