Nappy changes repeat all day long, so without anyone planning it they have already become one of the places where the most talking happens. For some babies it is not a favourite moment. The sudden cold air, being moved, and having whatever they were doing interrupted can all be unpleasant, so it can help to say what comes next and to go slowly. Legs going up and down can be part of a movement your baby is exploring, and in time they can become part of a small game. If your baby cries at every change, try a warmer room, a warm hand and the same order of steps every time, because the familiar takes the surprise out of it. Get everything you need ready before you lay your baby down, so you can stay with them the whole time. If you change them on a raised surface, never leave them alone on it, not for a moment.
